Learn more about Galzes.

My twin sister, Jill Livingstone, and I were born and raised in Carmel. We shared a desire to create a place where people could be entertained doing hands-on activities and we wanted our own little business in Carmel.

We had heard about a few ceramic studios in the Los Angeles area and ventured south to check them out. We fell in love with the concept and opened Glazes, A Ceramics Workshop in the Crossroads Shopping Village, Carmel on July 22, 1996.

In 1998, I became the sole owner of Glazes, added mosaics and, in the last year, glass fusing. Through the years I have done a lot of custom work for various clients and organizations and have contributed to the community through many fundraising activities. This is very rewarding and is part of my mission to give back. Gail Hillbun has been an employee for many years and is an extremely talented artist as well as Dai Thomas, of Twelve Miles West. I am also proud to have helped Darryle Pollack find her creative muse. In fact, we call her the “owner” as she often spends more time at Glazes than I do!

After ten years in business I felt it was time for a business redesign. Glazes now offers more classes, camps and events than ever before. I am proud of our new website (thanks to Freestyle Communications) and calendar. I found that our e-mail newsletter is a great way to get the word out and will do a monthly newsletter highlighting classes and special deals to our customers. The website will feature a blog and I would really love feedback and ideas on how to make Glazes your place for creative fun. And of course I thank all our wonderful customers for their support through the years!
